UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 240
Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Education held on April 20, 2009 at the Unified District Office. Those present were Board Members Phil Aumick, Bernie Regnier, Mark Whitesell, Rick Bremerman, Kelli Webb, and Matt Ehrhart; Administrators Becky Cheney, Craig Gantenbein and Bill Edwards; Clerk Cindy Regnier and 12 visitors.
President Matt Ehrhart called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
The agenda for the meeting was adopted. Motion by Kelli Webb, seconded by Phil Aumick. Carried with 6-0 vote.
The consent agenda (March 9, 2009 minutes and checks 44105 through 44245 in the amount of $419,148.52) for the meeting was approved. Motion by Mark Whitesell, seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 6-0 vote.
Don Weiland arrived at 7:05 pm.
Motion by Rick Bremerman to appoint Kelli Webb and Mark Whitesell as the board representatives to teacher’s negotiations. Seconded by Don Weiland. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion by Phil Aumick to initiate all-day Kindergarten at Bennington beginning with the 2009-2010 school year and to accommodate this initiative the 2009-2010 Bennington 3rd grade class will be combined to allow for staff movement to accommodate the restructuring. The motion further stated that if the 2009-2010 3rd grade class becomes larger than 20 students the principal will bring the class size issue back to the Board for further consideration. Seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion by Don Weiland to renew the district’s membership to the Kansas Association of School Boards and the legal services of KASB. Seconded by Kelli Webb. Carried 7-0.
Motion by Kelli Webb to approve the 2009-2010 attendance of 5 out-of-district students at Bennington grade school and to table the request of 3 others to attend BGS unitl more information was available. Seconded by Bernie Regnier. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion by Mark Whitesell that the board go into executive session for 20 minutes to discuss personnel. Seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried 7-0. The board went into executive session at 8:35 pm.
The Board reconvened at 8:55 p.m.
Motion by Don Weiland that the board extend the executive session for 30 minutes to discuss personnel. Seconded by Phil Aumick. Carried 7-0. The board went into executive session at 8:55 pm.
The Board reconvened at 9:25 pm.
Motion by Rick Bremerman that the board extend the executive session for 15 minutes to discuss personnel. Seconded by Kelli Webb. Carried 7-0. The board went into executive session at 9:25 p.m.
The board reconvened at 9:40 pm.
Motion by Kelli Webb to approve the hiring of Brent Mumford as assistant principal at Tescott schools. Seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion by Phil Aumick to accept the resignations of Johanna Swenson as USD 240 Spanish Instructor and Roger Duell as Bennington High School Science Instructor. Seconded by Mark Whitesell. Carried with 7-0 vote.
President Matt Ehrhart adjourned the meeting.
