UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 240
Minutes of the meeting of the Board of Education held on April 19, 2010 at the Unified District Office. Those present were Board Members Bernie Regnier, Mark Whitesell, Rick Bremerman, Kelli Webb, and Matt Ehrhart; John Adam participated in the meeting through Skype technology. Administrators Becky Cheney, Craig Gantenbein and Brent Mumford; Clerk Cindy Regnier and 3 visitors.
President Mark Whitesell called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
The agenda for the meeting was adopted. Motion by Matt Ehrhart, seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 6-0 vote.
The consent agenda (March 8, 2010 minutes and checks 45663 through 45776 in the amount of $271,461.96) for the meeting was approved. Motion by Bernie Regnier, seconded by Matt Ehrhart. Carried with 6-0 vote.
Phil Aumick arrived at 7:12 pm.
Motion by Phil Aumick to renew the district’s membership to the Kansas Association of School Boards and the legal services of KASB. Seconded by Kelli Webb. Carried 7-0.
Motion by Kelli Webb to approve the District Technology Plan. Seconded By Bernie Regnier. Carried 7-0.
Motion by Phil Aumick to approve policy JGCBA Automated External Defibrillators, written defibrillator procedures and the defibrillator functionality check sheet. Seconded by Matt Ehrhart. Carried 7-0.
Motion by Phil Aumick to deny attendance at Bennington Grade School to 3 out-of-district applicants. Seconded by Kelli Webb. Carried 7-0.
Motion by Matt Ehrhart to approve the remaining 2009-2010 school year attendance of two out-of-district students at Bennington grade school and to approve the attendance beginning with the 2010-2011 school year of three out of district students at Bennington Grade School and one at Bennington High School. Seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion by Rick Bremerman that the board go into executive session for 30 minutes to discuss personnel. Seconded by Matt Ehrhart. Carried 7-0. The board went into executive session at 8:30 pm.
The Board reconvened at 9:00 p.m.
Motion by Rick Bremerman that the board extend the executive session for 30 minutes to discuss personnel. Seconded by Matt Ehrhart. Carried 7-0. The board went into executive session at 9:00 pm.

The board reconvened at 10:00 pm.
Motion by Matt Ehrhart to accept the resignations of Kelly Fleming as district technology assistant, Matt Pickrell as BHS Head football coach, BHS Head Wrestling Coach and BJH Head Wrestling Coach, and Bill Scheef as THS Head Girls Basketball Coach. Seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion By Rick Bremerman to approve the hiring of Terry King as THS Head Girls Basketball Coach and Dave Butler as BHS Head Football Coach. Seconded by Phil Aumick. Carried with 7-0 vote.
Motion by Phil Aumick to adopt the following resolution: WHEREAS Connie Cannon is currently employed in Unified School District No. 240, Ottawa County, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Education of said Unified School District No. 240, Ottawa County, Kansas, finds that the contract of Connie Cannon should be nonrenewed, and that Connie Cannon should be given written notice on or before May 1, 2010, of the intent of the board of education to nonrenew her contract for the 2010-2011 school year;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 240, OTTAWA COUNTY, KANSAS, AS FOLLOWS:
It is hereby declared to be the intent of the Board of Education of Unified School District No. 240, Ottawa County Kansas that the employment contract of Connie Cannon as a teacher be nonrenewed for the 2010-2011 school year; and
The clerk of the board of education is directed to give written notice in person or by restricted United States mail to Connie Cannon on or before May 1, 2010, of the board’s intent to nonrenew this contract for the 2010-2011 school year.
Seconded by Rick Bremerman. Carried with 7-0 vote.
President Mark Whitesell adjourned the meeting.
